High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At GS Kidd Memorial School, teachers design rich, differentiated learning experiences that recognise and extend each student’s strengths across creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional domains. Students are equipped with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and other assistive technologies so they can actively participate, express ideas, and engage deeply in learning.
Targeted learning goals, ongoing formative assessment and flexible teaching approaches ensure students are appropriately challenged, supported to take safe risks, and encouraged to build confidence, independence and higher-order thinking skills.
Across the school, we provide personalised opportunities that nurture talent and develop the skills students need to lead fulfilling lives. Student voice and leadership are promoted through structured advocacy roles, authentic decision-making opportunities and vocational learning programs that foster autonomy, teamwork and responsibility.
Our staff engage in sustained professional learning in high potential and gifted education, AAC and inclusive pedagogy to ensure potential is recognised early and learning is meaningfully extended. Partnerships with families, local schools and community organisations broaden access to creative, sporting, cultural and work-based experiences tailored to each learner’s strengths and aspirations.
GS Kidd Memorial School actively connects students to state-wide HPGE opportunities through collaborations with NSW Department of Education initiatives, the Arts Unit, Sports Unit and community partners. Students are supported to participate in inclusive sporting programs, creative showcases and leadership experiences that highlight their talents and build confidence in wider settings.
Through these networks, students develop skills for independence, communication and community participation, with AAC embedded to ensure every learner can engage fully and have their strengths recognised beyond the school.
